Some Past Events at Southminster

At Southminster, we love spending time together, serving together, and growing together!

  • Saturday Pancake Breakfast

Jesus is alive!  Join us to celebrate this good news.  We'll begin with a pancake breakfast (pancakes, sausage, juice) in the courtyard followed by Easter crafts in the Multipurpose Room (next to the Sanctuary in the church building), including a visit from the Easter Bunny. Bring your phones and camera for picture opportunities!

We'll have 3 Easter Egg Hunts! Please bring your own baskets. We will begin with youngest kids first.

    • Preschool (3 YO & below) in PlayTown (the toddler playground in the courtyard between School & Church).  These eggs will contain animal crackers and goldfish.

    • Pre-K & K (4YO-5 YO) on the Transportation Highway (northwest side of school)

    • 1st Grade & Up - Front Yard of the Church including Christ's Cove.

    RSVP on Facebook

  • Threads of Love Update

Thanks to the generous efforts of many people, SPC was able to donate 79 handmade crocheted or quilted items including baby hats, blankets, and quilts to Threads of Love San Antonio. These items are given to preemie babies and their families. Thank you for the support!

A new Threads of Love crochet group is now forming–-knitters are welcome too! For more information on joining and meeting times, please send us a direct message and we will get you in contact with the right people. Check out www.threadsoflovesa.org to see the history of this wonderful organization along with patterns and other resources!

  • Team Butterfly in the Houston Marathon

Team Butterfly has been out on the streets preparing for the Houston Marathon weekend activities happening January 15-16, 2022.  Races include a 5K, half marathon, and full marathon.  As always, we are asking for your help in our fundraising efforts for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services.  To donate, you may use the following link:

    https://fundraisers.hakuapp.com/teams/team-butterfly-1

After clicking on the donate button, your fundraiser to search for will be Dustin James – his fundraising site is for all of Team Butterfly.  Of course you can always hand a check to any of the Team members, or leave it in the church office.  Please make checks payable to PCHAS and write Team Butterfly on the memo line.

Your Team Butterfly runners and walkers this year are Dustin James, Doug Earle, Barb Reynolds, Becky & Kevin Walker, Amanda Bassett, Ali Dickson, Kat Lindsey, Cynthia Reyburn, Casey Goforth and Dorothy Goforth.

Your support is appreciated, whether it be by donating, or by prayer.  You all have been faithful supporters to Team Butterfly for 16 years and we are very grateful.

  • Live Nativity Service

    Live Nativity

The children of Southminster Church and School came together with some live animals (and a few adults) to celebrate the birth of Jesus in a live nativity service of lessons and carols.

  • Cookies

Cookies for Fort Bend Juvenile Detention

Once again, this year we provided Christmas cookies for the young people at Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation.  Please bring two dozen cookies (homemade or store-bought) by Sunday December 19.  They will be collected by Doug Earle for distribution. (You’re welcome to bring more than two dozen if you’d like!)

  • Breakfast with Three Wise Men

Three Wise Men visited the children of the church and school bearing gifts and wise words while all were enjoying breakfast tacos and a variety of colorful crafts.

  • Seafarer Boxes Delivered to the Port of Houston

One hundred twenty-seven gift boxes--enough for the crews of  five ships went to the Houston International Seafarers’ Center.  The chaplains began distributing the presents in early December.  All of the crews are far from home and many will spend Christmas in some port or at sea, so the gifts are well received.

  • Chili Cook-Off

Friends and Family made Southminster Youth Group's Annual Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser  a successful evening with great food and great people.  Look for pictures on our Facebook page.

This year all funds raised were donated to TEXSAR in gratitude for their continual efforts searching for Jason Landry, one of our church's beloved youth who went missing on December 13th, 2020, and is still missing.

There were 16 different and tasty champion chilis. The winning team raising the most money was the Bramer brothers' Hillbilly Chili.  These 2021 Cook-Off winners took home the Golden Chili Bowl.   Second place went to two-time winner, Pastor David Northcutt with West Texas Heat.  Third was defending champion, Bill Johnson's Cowboy & India chili.

  • Trunk or Treat

On Halloween night we hosted Trunk or Treat in the church parking lot! It was great to see so many families from the community, our school, and our church. Thanks to everyone who provided a trunk and a safe place for kids to trick or treat. You can see more photos from the event on our church's Facebook page.

  • Manna Bags

In the Old Testament God's people had to wander around the wilderness for 40 years once they left slavery in Egypt in order to prepare their hearts for entering the Promised Land. During that time God provided Manna, a bread-like substance, to eat each day. Our Manna Bags are bags filled with items that would give immediate sustenance and relief to our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness or going through a hard time. Thanks to everyone who donated items for the bags.

Pick up a bag or two when you come to church and keep it in your car. You never know when God may bless your path with someone who needs it.

  • Southminster Fall Festival

On October 23, Southminster School PTO hosted the annual Fall Festival! Southminster School teachers, parents, and Southminster church members volunteered to put on a great event! Thanks to all of the volunteers and vendors, and thanks to all of our friends from the community who came out with their families! You can see more photos from the event on Southminster School's Facebook page
