Lent & Easter at Southminster

Lent is a special time for followers of Jesus as we remember his life, his death, and ultimately his resurrection. Lent lasts for 40 days (not including Sundays) and ends on Easter. During this season followers of Jesus emphasize spiritual practices such as fasting, prayer, reflection, and repentance.

We encourage you to take advantage of the following opportunities to grow in your faith during this season.

  • Daily Devotionals: February 17th-April 4th

During Lent SPC staff, leaders and church members write daily devotionals to help us grow in faith and center ourselves on following Jesus. Join our email list to receive these daily devotionals.

  • Zoom Bible Study: Traveling Light by Max Lucado - Mondays @ 7:00 - 8:00 PM

During Lent our sermon series, Traveling Light, will continue exploring the burdens we carry around with us. This weekly Bible study is led by Pastor Kent. Find out more information at southminpres.org/zoom

  • Zoom Bible Study: The Lent Experience - Wednesdays @ 8:00-9:00 PM

Join Pastor Andrew each Wednesday night during Lent for The Lent Experience. Each week we'll learn about one of the following spiritual practices: fasting, silence and solitude, repentance, almsgiving, forgiveness, and Bible reading. We'll watch a short 5 minute video on each topic then discuss ways to do this practice throughout the next week.

Here is the study description: What happens when you take 2,000 years of a Christian tradition, capture the heart of it, and reimagine it? Whether you’re a veteran of observing Lent or a rookie who is jumping in for the first time, you can join thousands of people for an experience that just may surprise you.

It’s simple. Each week until Easter you will watch a short video that will give you your Lent Experience challenge for the week. The challenges are based on things that have been a part of Lent for centuries. Your 80 page participant journal is loaded with everything you need to learn more about Lent and to successfully complete each week’s challenge.

You can purchase an e-book TLE Journal or a physical TLE journal here.

  • Easter in a Bag - Lent & Easter Experience at Home for Families

Our Children's Ministry created 'Easter in a Bag' kits for our families to use at home with their preschool/elementary kids during the season of Lent.

Check out our Easter in a Bag Instructions to learn about everything in the bag! Digital copies of some of the resources can be found below:

  • Palm Sunday: Sunday, March 28th @ 10:30 AM

On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem for the last time. During this service the children process into the Sanctuary waiving the palm branches and lay them at the front as they sing, "Hosanna."

Join us for Palm Sunday in person or online at southminpres.org/worship.

  • Maundy Thursday: Thursday, April 1st @ 7:00 PM

On Maundy Thursday we remember the Last Supper, Jesus' last meal with his disciples before he was arrested. During this service we join in communion together, and the service ends with the stripping of the altar as we prepare for Good Friday.

Join us for Maundy Thursday in person or online at southminpres.org/worship.

  • Good Friday: Friday, April 2nd @ 7:00 PM

On Good Friday we remember the last, and most painful part of Jesus' journey to the cross. During this service we hear the stories of Jesus' last hours on earth leading to his crucifixion. The service ends with Jesus being nailed to the cross. We remember that death did not have the final say on that day. Although we leave in darkness, we leave looking forward to the hope of Easter.

Join us for Good Friday in person or online at southminpres.org/worship.

  • Easter Services - Sunday, April 4th @ 7:00 AM & 10:30 AM

Jesus is ALIVE! Join us for worship as we declare that Jesus has resurrected and sin has been defeated!

At 7:00 AM we'll gather on our front lawn (on the labyrinth) for our Sunrise Service as we remember that the Son rose on Easter morning. This service will be shorter than our typical service, but just as meaningful.

At 10:30 AM we'll gather to celebrate Jesus' resurrection in our Sanctuary. Join us for a special day of singing, praising, and testifying to what God has done through Jesus Christ.
